LAHORE: Former federal minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmad has claimed both Asif Ali Zardari and Mian Nawaz Sharif behind the scenes are agreed over non reinstatement of Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry saying deposed judges will be restored by the end of June and PML-Q will also support it.
Sheikh Rashid said this in an interview. He held all the parties were allied but they were not with each other at heart.
The negotiations between PPP and PML-N collapsed on the issue of judges reinstatement because Nawaz Sharif wanted immediate restoration while Asif Zardari wanted the reinstatement through scrutiny. The method PML-N wanted to adopt in this respect is illegal and unconstitutional while PPP is refusing to pursue it. PPP had come to power after going through a hard time spanning long period, therefore, PPP wanted to run the government for five years. On the other hand Mian Nawaz Sharif wanted elections within a year, he told. Therefore, PPP and PML-N were poles apart in their perceptions, he added.
Judges would however be reinstated by the end of June, he said adding a constitutional package would come in parliament and it would be supported by both of the houses of the parliament. PML-Q will also support it, he added.
“I had told if I won the election in 2008 then it would be my last election. But I lost it, therefore, I would continue to contest elections the whole life long”, he announced.
Giving reasons about his defeat in the elections, he said people cast votes on issues and they did not like PML-Q.
Responding to a question about demand on Chaudhry Shujat removal from PML-Q chairmanship after his defeat Sheikh Rashid said he had already told he was not taking interest in the politics of PML-Q and he was contesting election in the capacity of independent candidate.
“I am foreseeing the future scenario very horrendous. If situation starts deteriorating once in the country then it goes on worsening. You can imagine no one is talking about the situation of the country”, he remarked.
End.
