Benazir wants commitment of fair elections fulfilled |

MUZAFFARGARH : PPP Chairperson Benazir Bhutto said on Tuesday that free, fair and transparent elections are the need of the hour adding that masses are craving for it and promise of the government to honour this desire of the people should be fulfilled.While addressing a public meeting at sports ground here she said that promise of holding elections in fair and transparent manner should be fulfilled so that people should decide their destiny on their own.
She said that Peoples Party was a party of middle class, poor workers and peasants whose commitment and loyalty to the party enabled it survive many crisis situations.
Benazir Bhutto said that she respects the people of Seraiki belt and added that Sardar Farooq Ahmad Khan Leghari who hails from South Punjab became the President of Pakistan during the tenure of PPP government.
She said that she understands the problems of the rural populace for she herself belongs to a rural area.
She said we wants to see Pakistan moving forward as per the demand of the 21st century.
PPP chairperson said that over 100,000 teachers were recruited and over 50,000 elementary and secondary schools were set up during the tenure of PPP government.
She criticized the previous government for failure to check price hike, unemployment and law and order situation.
Benazir Bhutto strongly condemned terrorism saying that Islam is a religion of peace. She said that terrorists want to weaken the country through acts of terrorism and added: “We all have to fight this trouble together.”
She said that the party rejects the politics based on ethnicity or sectarianism adding “We believe in national democratic politics based on survival and strengthening of the country.”
She urged upon the people to vote for the PPP adding that the party has entered the election arena with a five-point agenda and, if voted to power, it will fulfil all the promises.
PPP leader said that her party never compromised on principles of democracy. She said that PPP strengthened the defence of the country and equipped it with Atom Bomb, nuclear and missile technology.
Benazir Bhutto said that baseless cases were registered against her but none of them could be proved.
Earlier, PPP chairperson was received warmly by the party workers at Chenab bridge from where she was guided to the venue of the public meeting in the form of a procession.
Punjab PPP president Makhdoom Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Babar Awan, former federal minister Malik Naveed, Sardar Abdul Qayyum Jatoi, ticket holder Jamshed Dasti (NA-178), district president Mian Mohsin Ali Qureshi, Chaudhry Sarwar Abbas, Khawaja Amir Fareed Koreja and others also spoke on the occasion.
PPP nominee from NA-177 Hina Rabbani Khar could not attend the public meeting due to her marriage ceremony at Lahore. However, his father, former MNA Malik Noor Rabbani Khar, reached the venue of public meeting in the form of a procession, on behalf of her daughter and also addressed the public meeting.
